Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year at West View!  To kick things off I’d like to put all the school supply lists here so that they are more easily accessible.

Meet the teacher night information is TBD.  We will post it here when it is available.

  • 1 seasonal change of clothes in a large labeled Ziploc bag. (label each item of clothing with child’s name)
  • 1 container of Clorox wipes
  • 1 package of baby wipes
  • 1 one inch white binder with clear pocket sleeve on front (no zipper binders)
  • 1 package of sheet protectors
  • 1 single subject composition notebook
  • 1 single subject spiral notebook
  • 1 package of yellow #2 pencils
  • 1 beach towel (no blankets)
  • 1 set of ear buds secured in labeled snack size baggie

1st Grade

  • 2 boxes of 24 count crayons with name
  • 1 vinyl pocket folders with/without prongs with name
  • 2 dozen yellow #2 pencils
  • 1 pack erasers (cap or wedge)
  • 1 regular size plastic pencil box
  • 6 large glue sticks
  • 1-1½ inch binder with pockets (no zipper binders)
  • 2 one-subject spiral notebooks (wide ruled) with name
  • 2 marble notebooks with name
  • 1 pair of earbuds or headphones, the type that plugs into cellphones and computers
  • 1 zipper type pencil pouch for binder
  • 1 Expo 4pk dry erase markers

3rd Grade

  • 1 2-in binder with clear pocket cover front (no trapper keepers please)

  • 1 composition notebook (marble cover)
  • pencils (bring a supply to begin the year. replenish as needed.)

4th Grade

Items marked with an asterisk (*) are for “community use.”  These supplies will be shared by students and made available by all teachers.

Items marked with 2 asterisks (**), students will need to keep at least one and donate the rest to the community supply bank.

NC Studies Weekly is a supplemental resource.  The cost of this resource is $7.00 per student.  We ask that you pay in cash please.  This will be your child’s personal student copy.

Labeling your Supplies for the First Day of School

Please label the inside cover of the three-ring binder, composition notebooks, and three-subject notebook with your child’s first and last name.  The plastic folders will serve as dividers in the binder.  Please label them as follows:

  • Yellow folder = Homework/Communications
  • Red folder = Spelling
  • Blue folder = Language Arts
  • Green folder = Social Studies

Please insert one package of wide-ruled, loose-leaf paper in the binder.  Divide evenly and place behind each divider/folder.

Teacher Appreciation Week – May 2-6

Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week!  Here are some suggestions for ways to show your favorite teachers some love:

Friday, May 6th, we will provide a duty-free lunch for our awesome teachers and we need volunteers to supervise kids in the cafeteria.  If you’d like to volunteer some time to give teachers a well deserved lunch break, sign up here!

Online Book Fair Starts Today!

Our Spring Scholastic Book Fair will be from May 2 – May 10.  We will have our family event on the evening of May 10 as it coincides with a PTA general meeting and the school chorus concert.

West View Elementary Fun Run – less than 1 week away!

We have less than a week before the Boosterthon team comes to West View!  Here are the highlights of what’s to come in the next 2 weeks:
  • You can create your child’s account on funrun.com now!  They get a prize just for creating an account.
  • You can begin entering pledges now!  Pledge payments are due March 22nd.  Make sure to have the following legible information on EVERY payment sent in with your child:
    • Child’s name
    • Teacher’s name
    • Grade
    • Amount enclosed
  • Our big kick-off day is Tuesday, March 8th.   The kids will have a big pep rally to learn about this year’s theme (Big World Recess) and get familiar with the pledging process.
  • The West View Elementary Fun Run will be March 17th.  Grade schedule is as follows:
    • K & 3rd: 9:30-10:30
    • 1st & 2nd: 10:30-11:30
    • 4th & 5th: 11:30-12:30
    • PreK & EC: 12:30-1:30
  • A HUGE Thank You to all the parents who have already signed up to help with water for the fun run day!   We do need a few more volunteers to help pass out water for our very thirsty runners especially in the last time slot:  Fun Run Sign-up

West View Parent Survey

Hi Parents!  You should have received information this week regarding the AdvancED parent survey.  This is an anonymous survey for all staff, students, and parents to help target areas of improvement for the school system as well as areas to continue to be effective.

Please take the time to fill out the SURVEY and have your voice be heard!  There are 39 short questions as well as 3 open-ended response questions.  We would really like to have a high participation level.  Thank you in advance for your time and point-of-view!

West View Elementary Fun Run is coming soon!

Big World Recess LogoWe are excited to have the Boosterthon team back this year to help us raise money for our awesome school!

The theme for this year’s fun run is Big World Recess! Students will learn about student athletes from around the world and the importance of staying active every day.

We will continue to raise money specifically for smart boards and student devices to make sure our kids have access to appropriate technology as part of their education.  Here are some important dates to get you started:

Tues March 1st First day to enter pledges
Tues March 8th Kickoff day
Thurs March 17th Fun Run day
Tues March 22nd Pledge payments due
